My animal is dying.
It is not a smaller loss and I will never call it one. The decision, the appointment, the drive home, and the weeks after — I help with all of it.
A pet end-of-life doula helps you decide when, plan a peaceful death at home or at the clinic, be present for it, arrange burial or cremation and keepsakes, and support the household afterwards, children and other animals included. Vets handle the medicine; I handle everything around it.
How do I know when it is time?
“How will I know?” is the question everyone asks and nobody gets a straight answer to. I will sit with you and your vet’s advice and help you look honestly at good days and bad days, appetite, pain, dignity, and what your animal would choose if they could. There is rarely a perfect day. There is usually a right week.
- A quality-of-life conversation, without pressure in either direction.
- Talking to the vet with you, and writing down what was actually said.
- Hospice-style care at home in the last stretch, and what that involves.
- Preparing children, and deciding whether they will be in the room.
What does a planned euthanasia look like?
A planned death can be gentle. At home with a mobile vet, on their own bed, with the people they love and the sun on the floor. Or at the clinic, if that is where they feel safe or where you do. I help you choose, I arrange it, and I am there, so you can be with your animal instead of managing the room.

- Being in the room, holding the space, and driving if you cannot.
- Paw prints, fur clippings, the collar: keepsakes decided before, not scrambled for after.
Burial, cremation or keepsakes: what are the options?
Communal cremation does not return the ashes; private cremation does. Home burial is legal in many places and not in others. A pet cemetery is an option. I will explain the choices plainly, make the calls, and make sure what comes back to you is what you asked for.
The household afterwards
The house is too quiet. The other animals search. The children ask the same question every night. The food subscription, the insurance and the microchip registry each ambush you weeks later. I help with the practical and I am there for the rest: people grieving an animal are welcome in grief movement sessions, because it is the same grief.
